Buy or Rent a Condo in Thailand?

A question or type of question I get a lot by email on a regular basis, do I buy or rent and if I buy, what do I buy. Then can I own a property in Thailand?

Rather than go into a long discussion just have a look at these videos that I made for our YouTube channel.

This video has had over 70,000 views and hundreds of comments.

Another great video but to my surprise only got 22,000 views.

A must-watch if you are serious about buying or building in Thailand.

The subject of buying or building in Thailand must be the biggest topic for a foreigner thinking of retiring to Thailand at first and then of course the topic soon turns to Visas but that is another post.

Land of Smiles Thailand – YouTube Channel Update, New Videos, and Updated Merch

Land of Smiles Thailand – YouTube Channel Update, New Videos, and Updated Merch This page is here to help point people in the right direction and share a quick update on the Land of Smiles Thailand projects. What happened to the original YouTube channel The original Land of Smiles Thailand YouTube channel is no longer online. The channel was passed on some time ago, and after later changes to YouTube’s policies, it was eventually removed. Once a channel is shut down, YouTube does not restore videos, so that chapter has now come to an end. Where the videos are now The good news is that most of the original videos were backed up. They are now being gradually re-uploaded to a new YouTube channel , where the original stories, experiences, and Thailand-related content are being rebuilt in one place. Uploads are ongoing and added regularly. 👉 You can find the new channel here: Landofsmilesthailand2 An update on the merch store Alongside rebuilding the video library, the old La...

Retiring in Southeast Asia 2026: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam & Indonesia Visa Guide

Thinking about retiring in Southeast Asia? Thailand may be the best-known retirement destination in the region, but it isn't the only option. Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia all attract foreigners looking for warmer weather, a different pace of life and potentially lower everyday living costs. The important difference is immigration. Some countries provide clearer long-stay routes for retirees than others, and simply being able to enter a country as a tourist does not mean you can legally live there permanently. This 2026 guide compares Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia, with particular attention to retirement visas, long-stay options and the practical differences between the four countries. Important: Immigration rules can change. This guide is for general information and should not be treated as legal, immigration, tax or financial advice. Always confirm current requirements with the relevant government immigration authority before making plans or paying an age...
