Life back in the Uk compared to Thailand
We have now been back in the Uk for 20 months and it got me thinking what has been the difference between the two countries now that we seem to be recovering from the Covid era.
The biggest differences have to do with the seasons, climate and vibe.
When you live in Thailand it takes about two years to get used to the heat and humidity, Our house is South of Bangkok and averages 31 degrees over the year. In summer it rises to 45 degrees and in the rainy season, it drops to about 28 degrees.
Living in that heat wears you down and changes the way you spend your days, going out early in the morning and dodging into air-con rooms mid-afternoon.
Here in the Uk, it's totally different as the temperatures are completely different and range from -5 degrees in the Winter to 30 degrees in the Summer.
This leads me to the seasons and if I am honest whilst living in Thailand, I really missed the four seasons in the Uk. Thailand really only has two, the Summer and rainy seasons. This is something you really need to consider if you are thinking about moving to Thailand.
One thing that is really a huge difference and I felt cheated whilst living in Thailand is the daylight hours. You see at 6 am somebody turns the lights on and then at 6 pm turns them off, you notice this more in rural Thailand where there are fewer street lights and light pollution. But it gives you all year round only 12 hours of daylight whereas in many other countries away from the equator through the seasons you can get 16 hours of daylight in summer. That I really do enjoy being back in the Uk and taking advantage of it fully.
As far as the vibe, and atmosphere in each country, they are complete opposites and I have to say Thailand wins hands down. In the Land of Smiles, you are greeted with more respect, friendly people and smiles. The Uk sadly feels like a transit lounge and no respect with so many people trying to climb over each other for a dollar.
If you can afford to live comfortably then Thailand is a great option however I think better to spend some months of each year in the Uk or your country, which gives you the ultimate combination.
For us going forward, I believe if we can afford it, then we will spend some time each year back in the Uk, this all depends on our business in Thailand and tourism getting back to some normality, time will tell.
Overall we have enjoyed being back in the UK, it is a country that allows you to come in, work hard and if done right top up your bank balance as many people do from all over former Europe.
